Katey is in Delhi! The travel was excellent, minus a small hiccup with gate assignments in Bahrain and a small altercation between taxi drivers at the Delhi airport, but she made it! Her first day in Delhi was full of catching up with friends (those with two legs and four!) and trying desperately not to sleep until bedtime.

As today is a holiday (Dussehra), there is not much shopping to be done, so Katey is busy working on the paperwork and finalizing travel details for the rest of her trip.

Dussehra is one of the more important holidays in the Hindu calendar. Also known as Vijaydashami, this holiday comes on the 10th day of the festival of Navratri. It is celebrated throughout India and Nepal as a marker of the end of summer, the beginning of the harvest season, and to commemorate the victory of Lord Rama over the demon Ravana. Along with offerings in the temples, in North India fireworks and the burning of effigies are common as are performances based on the exploits of Rama.

Along with this blog, you can follow Katey’s journey on Instagram! She will be posting all kinds of things on there – basically whatever catches her eye!
