Francesca thinks one of the most interesting things to see in Jaipur is Jantar Mantar, an observatory built by Jai Singh in the first half of the 18th century. There are 19 main astronomical instruments that resemble a collection of giant bizarre sculptures or a strange playground, though you aren’t allowed to climb on them anymore. It was a bit crowded as it was a Sunday afternoon but Claudia found it fascinating that scientific instruments like these were made so long ago and the calculations were so precise. The huge sundial can give the time to an accuracy of 2 seconds, which we found amazing. We think Jantar Mantar is a must see for anybody interested in astronomy and you can hire a guide there if you want to learn more. There are 4 more of the observatories around India , one of which is in Delhi , but the one in Jaipur is the biggest and best preserved. Claudia says it looks like it was built just a few years ago.
