Francesca and Claudia went to a block print workshop today to see some blockprinted cashmere scarves and not only saw the craftsmen at work, but got to print a scarf themselves! A craftsman made sure the scarf was stretched tight and pinned down, a design was chosen and the blocks and color of dye were picked. Then the printing began and a pretty cashmere scarf with not quite straight lines was the result! Claudia was very impressed with the whole process, doing one color was hard enough, but they were working on a design with 8 colors. Each color was put on by a different block and each block had to be put in the exact right spot to make the pattern come out correct. Block printing on wool is a new twist on an old craft. Francesca bought some of the beautiful and so soft cashmere scarves to bring back to Sankara.
