Francesca and Claudia were up early again to get a 6 am train to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. Claudia has been waiting to see the Taj since she had a poster hanging on her bedroom wall when she was 12 years old. Getting her first glimpse of it was even better than she thought it would be. After the initial excitement and getting some quick photos of the Taj glittering in the sun, she took some time to soak it in. They enjoyed the beautiful grounds, seeing different views of the Taj. It was slightly disappointing that 3 of the minarets were being cleaned and were covered in scaffolding and the pools were empty of water, so none of the famous reflection photos were possible. It was funny watching some tourists go to great lengths to try to get the Taj reflected in the little bit of water left in one of the pools with their cameras. Even the scaffolding couldn’t dampen the experience of seeing the Taj Mahal for the first time.
They also enjoyed seeing Agra Fort, across the river from the Taj, and the abandoned city, Fatehpur Sikri, an hour drive from Agra and learning a little history from their knowledgeable guide.
